Schizophrenia is a scary word. When the founder of Psychotic Perspectives was diagnosed with schizophrenia, even she herself was scared of it.

This site is to help us not be so scared.

Some People Say I'm Unique, That There Aren't Any People With Schizophrenia Like Me.
Well There Are People Like me Out There, But The Stigma Is So Great, They Don't Come Forward.  ~Elyn Saks

What is psychosis?

Psychosis is a disconnect from reality.

What is schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia is a disorder that affects thought processes, feelings, and behavior. A person with schizophrenia can experience psychosis through hallucinations or delusions. These are also called the positive symptoms.

They can have positive symptoms as well as negative ones.

It is important to note that a person experiencing psychosis doesn't make them a person with schizophrenia. The two terms are related, not interchangeable. A person with schizophrenia can experience psychosis, a person experiencing psychosis may not have schizophrenia.
